Energy Efficiency Bingo

Two energy efficiency awareness sessions, energy bingo and advice in London.

  • Organiser: Ruth Winston
  • Type: Workshop
  • Location: London
  • Duration: 2 days
  • Budget: £100

Event Summary

As the main energy awareness session focused on the bingo, everyone was really excited to experience energy bingo. It worked exceptionally well in that each number called out related to a fact on the energy bingo sheet that was downloaded from the website. These facts raised awareness of the costs of running appliances, as well as savings that can be made from small changes around the home.
It was extremely effective at initiating discussion around and allowed a good opening point for people to talk about their own experiences where people could learn from others.

Further advice was given to the group about how better to use their appliances and thermostat, particularly in the winter, in order to save money and keep their homes warm.

Budget £100

In total the two energy awareness sessions cost £100.83 to arrange, although the main expense was the bingo equipment that we chose to buy. The breakdown of the costs for the two sessions are as followed:

Bingo machine, pens and books - £50.50
Prizes - £18.32
Room Hire (2 x 11) - £22
Refreshments - £10

What format did the event take?

There were two energy efficiency sessions arranged with bingo.

How was the event promoted?

The sessions were promoted through the distribution of posters and by volunteer ambassadors promoting the sessions by word of mouth when attending each class and club. An email was also sent to all members to make them aware of the upcoming sessions.

Attendee Feedback & Outcomes

There were between 8 and 14 at each of the two sessions, totalling around 22 people.

The feedback from the attendees was really positive in that they all expressed that they had learnt something new and were surprised about how much money could be saved by such small changes. They said that the sessions had been good at making them think about how they use their heating appliances and also gave them knew knowledge that they didn’t know before, such as that by using a thermostat they didn’t need to have their heating on all day in order to keep their house warm.  It was also mentioned by many that they had not heard about the Priority Services Register and that this is something that a lot of the attendees or their partners might be eligible to go on. Some had heard of it but had not used it but gave them the knowledge and confidence to ask to go on it.

  • Increased confidence and knowledge of energy efficiency and affordable warmth
  • Increased confidence and knowledge of what the Priority Services Register is and how to apply to be on it
